The members that formed the Imperio Serrano did so because the school they were part of, the Pleasure of the Serrinha, was coming to an end due to some problems. Eventually democracy won over and the participants of the school formed the Imperio Serrano. This top samba school was born on March 23rd, 1947.
From the beginning of the conception of the Imperio Serrano this samba school has done excellent. No one had any idea that the moment the school was born they would begin as the Carioca Carnival champion. Not only did the Imperio Serrano samba school win this coveted championship once but nine times in a row.
The Imperio Serrano School works to allow all members a voice and to experience their heritage with the excellent dance and music that samba revolves around. There are many dances that are well known thanks to samba carnival celebrations. If you are looking at the Imperio Serrano is popular because of the strong cultural beliefs.
One of the most popular dances that come from the Imperio Serrano is the jongo. This culturally memorable dance is practiced often and with pride. The wonderful thing about jongo is its radiant simplicity. It leaves a crowd in awe at the perception of the trained dancers performing the moves. The jongo and the Imperio Serrano offer simple melodies and an equally simple choreography that is simply dazzling not to mention full of secrets that leave you to wonder and perceive the dance in your own way.
The Imperio Serrano is one of the 14 top samba schools available in the Rio de Janeiro area. They were part of the elite group at the 2005 Carnival. Due to this high honor the Imperio Serrano School was able to perform at the Sambodrome in Rio.
