It took them nearly 40 years,
but the Unidos de Vila Isabel Samba School proved hard work and dedication could lead them to a Carnival Championship.

On April 4, 1946 the Unidos de Vila Isabel school of Samba was founded by Antonio Fernandes de Silveira. Though the school first paraded at Carnival the year it was founded it was not until 1962 that the school actually competed in the first group. This incredible honor gave the school its place as one of the more revered Samba Schools in Rio.

It took a lot of dedication and work, but a little over 20 years later, in 1988, the Unidos de Vila Isabel Samba performers were the Carnival Champions. The performance was quite a surprise as the Samba performers from Unidos de Vila Isabel worked the crowd perfectly.

Unidos de Vila Isabel is located in the small Village of Isabel in Rio de Janeiro. The community spirit that has rallied behind the Samba School has definitely helped the Unidos de Vila Isabel Samba School become a successful part of the Special Group that performs at Carnival.

Like many of the other Samba Schools the Unidos de Vila Isabel originally formed with the colors of the village soccer club. Their colors are peach and white. The name of the school "Unidos de Vila Isabel" actually translates to mean "The United of the Village Isabel".

The name fits perfectly as it is clear that the community of Village Isabel has made sure to devote their time and efforts towards making the Unidos de Vila Isabel samba school so popular and successful. Carnival and the Samba spirit truly impact an entire community. The joy, victory, and even the disappointments of the Unidos de Vila Isabel are felt by every citizen of the Village Isabel.

Despite the let down that has occurred from time to time, victory far outweighs the downer attitude in Isabel as the village prepares throughout the entire year for another successful Carnival performance.
