Where is the Samba School:
Address:
Avenue of the Contour, l6 - Barreto – Niterói
The colors of Viradouro Samba School are blue and rose. These colors were
picked because of the significance of the date of conception matching the
commemorative date of the Saint Joao Baptist. The colors have specific meaning
blue for the mantle and rose for the vestments. These colors are proudly displayed
by the performers at Carnival's Samba parade.
Thanks to the support and hard work of the samba dancers this school has done exceptionally well. The Viradouro Samba School danced for the first time in 1947 and with their splendid dancing style and traditional costumes they brought much color and life to Carnival.
From 1947 to 1963 the samba dancers of Viradouro managed to bring home an amazing 10 championships from the city of Niteroi where the samba school was founded. The Viradouro were only beat out an unsuccessful number of four times but even in those instances the placement was still very good.
The first attempt in dancing the samba parades of Rio de Janeiro was an unfortunate one. Due to some problems the samba dancers of the Viradouro Samba School were unable to compete in Rio. However, by 1965 they were invited to compete and their style was one that impressed most everyone. The schools unique samba performance will live in Viradouro performing history.
The samba school has travelled between Rio de Janeiro and their home base
where it was all started. The lavish dances, beautiful women, and elegant
stories leave everyone, no matter where they dance, in awe. The Viradouro
Samba School was founded on a tradition of excellence that supported the true
depth of Brazilian culture and the dream and tradition continue to live on
today.
